Elk Grove Community Raises Over $175,000 To Install Elevator At Local VFW Hall
On Veterans Day last year, the Village, in partnership with the Community Character Coalition, announced the Vette for Vets Car Raffle, a fund-raising effort to install a much-needed elevator at the Elk Grove VFW Hall. The fund raising goal was set at $150,000 which was the estimated cost of this accessibility upgrade for local veterans. We are proud to announce that the community exceeded the goal in support of our local veterans!
On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, The Village Board and Community Character Coalition of Elk Grove presented a check for $178,953.58 to members of VFW Post 9284 Veterans. These funds include not only money raised from the Vette for Vets raffle but also many generous donations from the Elk Grove business community.
The Village thanks Castle Chevrolet North, the Community Character Coalition, as well as the many local businesses who made generous contributions in support of our local veterans.

Tollway Launches SmartRoad on I-90 on September 5
The Illinois Tollway is introducing 16 miles of SmartRoad on I-90: Technology for a safer, more efficient 21st century roadway. Overhead signs installed every half mile between Barrington Road and Kennedy Expressway are in place to provide drivers with real-time information incidents advisories, lane closures and transit services. The signs will remain blank - indicating the road is clear - until there is information to share with drivers.
SmartRoad signs will activate to direct drivers in the event of an incident, providing information up to a mile prior to the event.
- The lane control signs over the road display a red "X" when the lane is closed ahead.
- A diagonal yellow arrow indicate that vehicles need to change lanes.
- A downward yellow arrow will indicate that vehicles need to drive with caution.
- A downward green arrow indicates the lane is clear.
To accommodate transit, a Flex Lane - the inside shoulder of the roadway - will be used by Pace buses on the I-90 SmartRoad when traffic warrants. The Flex Lane can be used in an emergency as any other roadway shoulder. All Pace buses in the Flex Lane will be safely directed around an emergency in coordination with our traffic operations center.
For more information about the new SmartRoad on I-90 please visit the Tollway's website.

Elk Grove Village Fire Department Honored with Flight For Life Award
On July 20, 2017, the Elk Grove Fire Department was recognized by Flight for Life with the 2016 Scene Call of the Year Award.
This recognition was received for work on a single vehicle crash with a very complicated and extensive extrication - from both the underside and roof of the vehicle - that required extreme accuracy and communication to maintain the safety of the entrapped patient. This call illustrated the overall importance of critical thinking and decision-making with the ability to think outside the box, teamwork, communication, situational awareness, use of resources, training, scene coordination and management.
The actions of all involved, including the Elk Grove Village Fire Department, Arlington Heights Fire Department, Northwest Central Dispatch Center, Illinois State Police, Elk Grove Village Police, Cook County Sheriff’s Police, Cook County Forest Preserve Police, and Flight For Life personnel, provided this patient the best chance for survival and recovery
More information is available on the Village website.
