Elk Grove Village Snow Command Plan - Feb 8-9, 2018

Post Date:02/08/2018 4:35 PM

The National Weather service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Thursday evening through Friday night.  Snowfall predictions currently project 4 to 6 inches by daybreak Friday morning with total accumulations in excess of 8 to 10 inches by Friday evening.  Localized areas may see snow in excess of 12 inches.  Driving conditions will be hazardous and motorists should expect severe delays.  The public has been advised that travel will be very difficult to impossible at times.

The Village has prepared the following emergency snow operation plan for this upcoming event.  The plan will be modified as needed to best utilize our manpower and equipment as weather conditions change.  We hope that this plan represents a worst case scenario.

The number one priority of our response to the snow event will be maintaining access to key emergency services for our police and fire personnel.

Initial Phase - Approximately 6PM Thursday to 2AM Friday (Click here to view a map identifying arterial and secondary routes)
Maintain two lanes of traffic on arterial routes, as practical
Maintain one lane of traffic on secondary routes
Local streets will not be plowed

Primary Phase – Approximately 2AM Friday to 6PM Friday
Maintain two lanes on arterials and secondary routes
Plow at least a single lane on local routes
School route and municipal sidewalks will not be cleared until Monday morning

Overnight Operation – 6PM Friday to 3AM Saturday
Salt operation on arterial and secondary routes
Begin plowing of some local routes as practical

Cleanup Operation – 3AM Saturday to 6PM Saturday NOTE:  Most Village routes will have some snow cover or even snow pack until this phase of the operation begins.
Arterial and secondary routes to bare pavement
Plow two lanes on local streets and begin salting operations

Please note that it is anticipated that State and County highways may be one lane of traffic in each direction through at least Friday morning rush hour and likely heavily congested.  Click here for a list of streets maintained the State and County.

REMINDER:  PARKING IS PROHIBITED ON ALL VILLAGE STREETS WHEN MORE THAN A TWO-INCH SNOWFALL OCCURS.  IN ADDITION, IT IS ILLEGAL TO PUSH OR PLACE SNOW INTO THE ROADWAY.

YOUR COOPERATION WILL BE OF GREAT ASSISTANCE IN OUR SNOW REMOVAL EFFORTS.  OUR CREWS ARE DEDICATED TO CLEARING VILLAGE STREETS IN A SAFE AND EFFICIENT MANNER.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
