Elk Grove Village Snow Command Update - Friday, Feb 9
The snow accumulation during Thursday night was less than initially forecasted as we entered the Primary Phase of the plan. This allowed for the expansion of the lane clearing on the local roads beyond the initial single lane in most areas.
Friday Morning forecasts projected that the snow should taper off by noon on Friday. As of 10 am the forecasts have revised and snowfall is now projected through mid-afternoon and the intensity or rate of the snowfall has increased slightly. The Village plans to continue plowing following the guidelines established for the Primary Phase and the follow-on Overnight Operation.
The start of the planned Cleanup Operation on Saturday morning may be delayed depending upon the actual snowfall overnight (Friday into Saturday) and that storms expected duration.
PARKING IS PROHIBITED ON ALL VILLAGE STREETS AT THIS TIME.
IT IS ILLEGAL PUSH OR PLACE SNOW INTO A ROADWAY
Below is the original emergency snow operation plan for this event:
This plan will be modified as needed to best utilize our manpower and equipment as weather conditions change. The number one priority of our response to the snow event will be maintaining access to key emergency services for our police and fire personnel.
Initial Phase - Approximately 6PM Thursday to 2AM Friday (Click here to view a map identifying arterial and secondary routes)
Maintain two lanes of traffic on arterial routes, as practical
Maintain one lane of traffic on secondary routes
Local streets will not be plowed
Primary Phase – Approximately 2AM Friday to 6PM Friday
Maintain two lanes on arterials and secondary routes
Plow at least a single lane on local routes
School route and municipal sidewalks will not be cleared until Monday morning
Overnight Operation – 6PM Friday to 3AM Saturday
Salt operation on arterial and secondary routes
Begin plowing of some local routes as practical
Cleanup Operation – 3AM Saturday to 6PM Saturday NOTE: Most Village routes will have some snow cover or even snow pack until this phase of the operation begins.
Arterial and secondary routes to bare pavement
Plow two lanes on local streets and begin salting operations
Please note that it is anticipated that State and County highways may be one lane of traffic in each direction through at least Friday morning rush hour and likely heavily congested. Click here for a list of streets maintained the State and County.
