Elk Grove Village Named 2017 Tree City USA Community
Elk Grove Village has been named a 2017 Tree City USA community and awarded the Growth Award by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management, environmental improvement, and a higher level of tree care. This is the 33rd consecutive year the Village received the Tree City USA designation and the 4th consecutive year the Village received the Growth Award.
To earn the designation as a Tree City USA community, Elk Grove Village had to meet the four core standards of sound urban forestry management established by the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters. The standards include a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, and an arbor day observance & proclamation. The Growth Award recognizes communities for innovative programs and projects in the areas of education & public relations, partnerships, planning & management, and tree planting & maintenance. The Village is honored to have received the designation for the 33rd consecutive year.
