Frequently Asked Questions include

Do I need a Building Permit?

A building permit is needed to protect your safety.  If you are planning any home improvement project such as a building addition, driveway expansion, or installing a satellite dish, fence, pool, water heater, or central air, please contact our office at (847) 357-4220 to obtain the necessary permit.

Village staff is available to assist you with your permit application by answering your questions to ensure that your work is done in accordance with Village codes.

The permit process is needed to protect both you and the Village.  It protects you from improper work done by contractors.  Furthermore, it can save you money by making certain that all jobs are done correctly the first time so that they do not have to be redone to meet Village codes.  Please review any of the applicable pamphlets we have on-line to assist in your development.

Where can I place my "For Sale" or "Garage Sale" sign?

If you are planning a garage sale, open house, or other event that you desire to promote, please remember that signs are to be posted on private property, not on public rights-of-way.

It is a violation to post signs on utility poles or in the parkway (the area between the sidewalk and the street).  While these locations may be convenient and highly visible, posting signs in public rights-of-way is illegal and a nuisance that clutters our neighborhood.

Finally, as a courtesy, please ask for permission from any private property owners before placing a sign on their property.
