The Elk Grove Village Fire Department held its annual Fire Prevention Week Open House on Saturday, October 13th at Fire Station #7, 101 Biesterfield Road. The 2018 campaign theme chosen by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) was “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere.” The goal is to educate people about these three basic but essential steps to reduce the likelihood of having a fire.

Fire Prevention Week has been a national observance since 1925. It is held each year during the week of October 9th, in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. It is an annual reminder that we all need to make some to understand how to stay safe in the event of a fire, or better yet, prevent them from happening in the first place.
