Project Update (April 2018)

Beginning the week of April 2, 2018, Insituform, a contractor hired by the Village will begin lining sections of sanitary sewers along Elk Grove Blvd, Victoria Ln, Love St, Tonne Rd, Landmeier Rd and Wildwood Ln.. The day before work begins, Insituform personnel will place a door hanger (language below) on each affected resident’s door which details the type of work taking place and scheduled work date.

lnsituform is under contract by your local government to repair pipes without digging up your neighborhood. While the work is being performed, your sewer service connection will be temporarily sealed off. We need your cooperation to avoid backup of sewer water into your residence or business. To prevent water from escaping through any drain during the specified time period, turn off sump pumps which are connected to the sewer service and please do not wash clothes or dishes, take showers or baths or flush toilets.

If any problem occurs with your sewer service during this rehabilitation process, please visit our on-site representatives. If you have any questions after completion of the project, call the local representative listed below, not a plumber.

If you smell odors like plastic or glue inside your home during installation, it is perhaps the result of a dry or broken sewer trap.

Pour 1 gallon of water down all floor drains or any rarely used sinks/ tubs/toilets to ensure that a water barrier is maintained in the traps. If this does not prevent odors from entering your home, your trap may require repair. You may need to temporarily place plastic bags filled with water over the drain to prevent the backflow of odors or open windows to allow ventilation. If you continue to smell odors, please call the lnsituform representative.

Project Overview

The Village has implemented an aggressive program to install a cured-in-place liner in the  existing sanitary sewers. The lining process extends the useful life of the sewer system by over 50 years and significantly reduces the likelihood of sewer blockages on the Village's main line system. The project does not require any open excavation and has minimal impact on adjacent property owners.

An innovative process known as cured-in-place will be utilized to reconstruct certain sections of badly deteriorated sewer.  This reconstruction will be done without time consuming, expensive and disruptive excavation.  Instead of digging up and replacing the old pipeline, the cured-in-place process provides for the insertion of a special lining inside the pipe, creating a new smooth-surfaced, long-lasting pipe within the old sewer.

Normally each section of sewer to be reconstructed will require up to a 12 hour period to complete.  During this time the sewer connection to homes or commercial establishments will be sealed off.  Consequently, propertyowners will be asked to make limited use of their toilet facilities and refrain from doing laundry for 12 hours.

Property Owners will receive a door hanger informing them of the time and date of their 12 hour limited water use period.   (If work is canceled for that date they will receive a red door hanger notifying them of the cancellation).

As stated above, cured-in-place is a new and interesting process.  Residents are welcome as spectators, if they watch from a safe distance.  The project supervisor, when he has time, will be able to explain the process to interested persons at the job site.

By the way, while we have your attention, here's a tip: Take a minute to pour a quart or two of water into each basement floor drain.  It keeps the "trap" full which prevents sewer odor from coming into your home.  Because the water evaporates, this should be done regularly. It is also a good idea to keep your toilet lids down for the date and time in question.

We certainly appreciate your cooperation and apologize in advance for any inconvenience we may cause you during this work period.  If you have any questions or comments, please call Insituform Technologies USA, LLC. at (636) 530-8000 and refer to Insituform® work in your neighborhood.
