The Department of Public Works is tasked with the operation, maintenance and repair of the Village’s infrastructure and fleet. The Department consists of two divisions: the Infrastructure Division which is responsible for our streets, landscaping, and traffic signage as well as fleet services; and the Operations Division which oversees the water, wastewater and storm water systems as well as municipal buildings. These divisions are dedicated to working as a team to ensure that our residential and business community receives the highest quality of services today and in the future.
The Infrastructure Division maintains 330 miles of roadway, 14,014 parkway trees, 522 landscape beds, and 143 brick paver crosswalks. Traffic control signage and pavement marking are also maintained by the Division. We also maintain the Village’s police vehicles, fire apparatus, public works vehicles and equipment. The Division’s full time staff includes a Deputy Director of Infrastructure, Fleet Foreman, three (3) Public Works Foreman, thirteen (13) maintenance workers, five (5) mechanics and two (2) fleet support staff. The Operations Division is responsible for the maintenance, operation and repair of the water distribution, wastewater collection, and storm water systems. The maintenance and repair of water mains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers including hydrant and valve repair, water meter repair and replacement, water and wastewater pumping systems, sewer pipe lining, televised sewer inspections, sewer flushing, and root cutting. The Division’s staff oversees the operation of the Village’s water pumping stations and sanitary lift stations. The Village manages a water demand of over 5 million gallon of water each day. The Village’s drinking water meets all EPA standards for quality, quantity and reliability.
The Operations Division also performs building maintenance activities at the municipal complex, public work facilities, and four (4) fire stations. Work tasks conducted include mechanical, electrical, and plumbing maintenance and repair as well as custodial services. The Operations Division’s full time staff includes a Deputy Director of Operations, Utility Foreman, Building Foreman, two (2) Public Works Foreman, three (3) Utility System Operators, fourteen (14) Maintenance Workers, and two (2) Custodians.

The administrative office and main garage for Public Works is located at Landmeier Road and Tonne Road. The entrance to the Administrative Office is east of the Tonne Road traffic signal. Village vehicles are maintained at the Fleet Services Facility located on Biesterfield Road west of Meacham Road.
