The Elk Grove Village Fire Department regularly conducts Citizen’s Fire Academies for residents interested in learning more about the Fire Department and its operations. This six-week program usually takes place on Thursday evenings from 6.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. at Fire Station #8, 1000 Oakton Street.
Topics covered include: Calling 911, Special Teams Operations, Fire Extinguisher Training, Auto Extrication, Hose Evolutions, Emergency Medical Services/CPR, and Disaster Preparedness. Participants tour the training tower, learn basic first aid skills, and use specialized tools and equipment to better understand the types of conditions encountered by firefighters. All students are fitted with a set of protective clothing to use during the course of the academy.
The program culminates with an evening of hands-on simulations. All participants must complete an application form and will need to provide a release of liability prior to the start of class. The eight-week program usually begins in January and takes place at the Village Police Department located at 901 Wellington Ave.
Topics covered include: Tour of the Station, Use of Force/ Range Training, Traffic Investigation, Crime Scene Investigation, Canine Operations, 911 Dispatch Operations, Criminal Investigations, and Youth Investigations.
