The Tour of Elk Grove was cancelled in 2013. An open letter was published in local media outlets explaining the decision. A copy of this letter is located here. The following offers a synopsis of the event for posterity.

The Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove was an annual bike race held in the Village. At its 8th year it was Tour of Elk Grove logothe number one ranked cycling tour in America. Athletes from around the world come to compete in the tour. There were 15 professional & amateur races with nearly $150,000 in total prize money, including the richest 3-day, 3-stage men's pro cycling purse in the world. In addition there are three community cycling events: Mayor's Challenge Time Trial, Village Trustees' Fun Ride, and Children's Big Wheel Race.

In addition there are two evenings of community "Block Parties" on Friday and Saturday with live music, food, and fireworks. The weekend Kids' Fest provides loads of activities for the children. There is also a sports expo and retail area that includes concessions.
