Effective January 1, 2008, Chicago announced that it is
implementing water
rate increases of 15% in 2008, 15% in 2009
and 14% in 2010 for all of its
customers (44% increase over 3
years). This increase is required to proceed
with facility upgrades
and increase their water and sewer infrastructure
renewal/replacement program. |

Elk Grove Village purchases water from the City of Chicago
through JAWA
(Joint Action Water Agency). Increases in water
rates from Chicago
impacts the rate we pay JAWA. |

|
| |
The Village previously conducted a water & sewer rate study in
2005,
which resulted in rate increases on January 1, 2006 and
2007. Prior to the
2005 study, the last rate increase was in 1997.
Although water rate increases
were incorporated per the
expectations of JAWA at 2.5% annually in the 2005
study,
Chicago exceeded any reasonable expectations. |
