Elk Grove Village Officials Visit Pernik, Bulgaria
Elk Grove Village Trustee Pat Feichter and Police Chief Charles Walsh traveled to Bulgaria in January to visit the Village’s new Friendship City—Pernik, Bulgarian. During the visit, Trustee Feichter and Chief Walsh attended a major cultural festival, visited historical sites and met with governmental leaders. This visit helped created new friendships and formalize the friendship city agreement between Pernik and Elk Grove Village.
The trip took place during Pernik’s annual Surva festival, also known as the International Festival of Masquerade Games. The festival featured costumed performers parades, ceremonies and performances with music and fire dressed elaborate costumes and masks promoting variations of ancient Bulgarian customs that are still alive today.
In addition to the Surva festival, Trustee Feichter and Chief Walsh met many of the officials in Pernik. Pernik Mayor Vyara Tserovska arranged many activities that included a visit to a historic Orthodox monastery in the mountains, an old coal mine and dinners featuring traditional Bulgarian cuisine.
In November of 2018, a delegation from Pernik visited Elk Grove Village and an official Friendship Agreement was signed by both officials by the two communities. In creating the Friendship Agreement, both Elk Grove Village and Pernik are working to sustain a relationship that will last for many generations in efforts to exchange educational, cultural, and economic developments. Think Green Elk Grove - Eco-Friendly Tips for Spring Cleaning
Is winter over yet? Let's think of warm thoughts and prepare for future Spring cleaning. Below are a couple tips to become more eco-friendly while you clean:
- Reusable Cloths - Instead of using roll after roll of paper towels, invest in some hand towels or even use that old t-shirt you never wear. After using, throw the towels in the washer machine and stow away for a future cleaning.
- Eco-friendly Cleaners - Did you know that most household cleaners contain hazardous chemicals? If at all possible, look for cleaners that are labeled biodegradable or eco-friendly. If you are feeling very ambitious in being environmentally friendly for this Spring cleaning, check out these DIY-cleaners here.
