Elk Grove Village Board Honors Mayor Craig B. Johnson as Longest Serving Mayor

At the Village Board Meeting on April 9, 2019, the Board of Trustees honored Mayor Craig B. Johnson for the distinction of becoming the longest serving Mayor in the history of Elk Grove Village. 

Mayor Johnson officially surpassed Charles J. Zettek as longest serving Mayor on April 3, 2019. In recognition of this achievement, Trustee James Paul Petri presented Mayor Johnson with a proclamation on behalf of the Village Board.

Craig B. Johnson became Mayor of Elk Grove Village on April 22, 1997, and has served in this capacity for almost 22 years. Throughout his time as Mayor, he has overseen numerous infrastructure programs to revitalize and invest in the future of the community, including the Industrial Commercial Revitalization Commission, the Residential Enhancement Program and the Elk Grove 2025 Long-Term Infrastructure Plan.

Mayor Johnson has also supported the supported the creation of first-class recreational events for residents, including the Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove, a top professional cycling race held on the streets of the community; and the ongoing “Unity within the Community” Mid-Summer Classics Concert Series, a free event which continues to bring premiere entertainment to thousands of residents and guests every July on the Village Green.

Among numerous honors and awards, Mayor Johnson has been particularly recognized for his tenacious and innovative efforts to promote the Village as a premiere destination for economic development and support the Village’s business community’s efforts with the U.S. Conference of Mayors Small Business Advocate Award as well as the ENCLAVE Luminary Leader Award.

The Board of Trustees and the Village of Elk Grove congratulate Mayor Johnson on his notable achievement and thank him for these many years of public service and his continued dedication to the Exceptional Community.
