Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony

Please join us to welcome the Holiday Season at the Village’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony:

Friday, November 29 at the Village Green
901 Wellington Ave.
4:00 p.m. - Refreshments
4:30 p.m. – Concert 
5:30 p.m. – Tree Lighting

As a special treat, this year’s ceremony will feature a special holiday Performance by “The Ides of March” featuring Jim Peterik! After the performance, Jim Peterik will join Major Johnson in throwing the switch to light up the holiday tree and turn on over 250,000 lights.

A special fireworks display will follow the tree lighting, announcing the entrance of Santa and his elves. Refreshments including hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be provided.

Overnight Parking Restrictions Waived for Thanksgiving

From Saturday, November 23 through Monday, December 2, overnight parking restrictions are waived and residents and visitors can park on residential streets overnight without receiving a ticket.

Please note that it’s prohibited to park on residential streets if there is more than 2 inches of snow on the ground or if the Village is expecting snow.

The Village wishes everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!


Extended Leaf Collection Date - Place Leaves on Street By Monday, December 2, 2019 at 7:00 a.m.

Due to this year’s late leaf drop, the Village is extending the curbside leaf collection program with a special leaf collection for all Village residents. 

The special extended leaf collection will take place the week AFTER Thanksgiving.  Leaves must be placed on the street by 7:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2019Public Works will make one pass down all streets in the Village to collect leaves that were raked out over the holiday weekend. This deadline applies to all households throughout the Village – leaves placed after the deadline will not be collected. Please note that the extended leaf collection is weather dependent and may be cancelled in the event of snow.

If you have leaves to dispose of following this deadline, you can bring your leaves to dumpsters placed at the following locations:

450 E Devon Ave

Public Works Biesterfield Facility

Now - Fri, Dec 13

New Elk Grove Village Fire Station Receives National Accolades

The Village is proud to announce that Fire Station 8 located at 700 Fargo Ave. won the silver award in the category of “Satellite Stations” in the sixth annual Firehouse Magazine Station Design Award – the only facility in Illinois to earn this prestigious national recognition! This prestigious award recognizes outstanding architecture and design from Fire Departments nationwide. 

On Tuesday, November 19, at the Village Board meeting, the Fire Department and FGM Architects, which designed the facility, were presented with the award by a representative from Firehouse Magazine.

This top-notch facility allow for enhanced operational efficiency and sufficient space for future growth. In addition to designing the station for operational needs, the Fire Department and architects also implemented proactive measure to ensure the safety of personnel to combat the incidence of cancer in firefighters due to exposure to carcinogens. Annual Holiday House Decorating Contest

As the holidays approach, so does the annual Holiday House Decorating Contest! This year’s contest is brought to you by the Elk Grove Leo & Lions Clubs and the Village of Elk Grove.

To enter the contest, please submit your full name, address, phone number and category to Raymondmjr@aol.com by 5:00 pm on Thursday, December 19.  Judging will take place on Sunday, December 22.  Four winners will be recognized at an upcoming Village Board Meeting


Police Department Wins First Place at Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge

At the Village Board Meeting on Tuesday, October 22, the Police Department’s Traffic Division was recognized for their achievement of winning the First Place at the 2019 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge. The Police Department competed against other municipalities of a similar size from throughout the state, and was also awarded “Rookie of the year” as this was their first year participating in the challenge. Traffic Sergeant Randy Schumacher and his officers put a lot of hard work and effort into this initiative, which is focused on preventing the most common causes of traffic accidents through public education, enforcement activity, and training.

Holiday Light Recycling

The Village offers residents a convenient way to dispose of any unwanted, used and non-working holiday string lights and extension cords free of charge. Residents can drop them off at:

Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
November 1 – March 31
