Elk Grove Village’s Position as National Data Center Hub Solidified with the Addition of 164,000 Square Foot Facility

Post Date:01/23/2020 3:25 PM

Elk Grove Village, already home to the highest concentration of data centers in the Midwest, heralded this week’s announcement that T5 Data Centers, a leading provider of mission-critical development, facilities management and construction services has purchased a 164,000 square foot facility in the heart of the new Elk Grove Technology Park.

“The news that T5 Data Centers will make a significant investment here is another major step toward establishing Elk Grove Village as the region’s center for high tech business development, job growth and innovation,” said Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson.  “Our national reputation as a hub for data centers stems from years of hard work to provide high tech companies with unrivaled fiber connectivity, reliable power and high-speed information networks, investments in bricks and mortar infrastructure and a commitment to partner with businesses to help them thrive.”

The Elk Grove Technology Park lies on the north end of the nation’s largest industrial park, a six- square mile area that is home to 5,600 businesses that employ approximately 60,000 Chicago-area residents.

Over the last several years, the Village has worked to support the transformation of Busse Farm from vacant land into a thriving high-tech hub spanning 85 acres. The Village annexed this land in 2017 and approved a redevelopment agreement with the Brennan Investment Group to support the necessary infrastructure development, including new roads, water service and sewer systems.

T5 Data Centers currently operates a 208,000 square foot facility in Elk Grove Village.  Their new 164,000 square foot facility in the Elk Grove Technology Park will provide 103,000 square feet of white space and 15.4 critical megawatts of power capacity.

“We’re excited to grow in the Chicago data center market where we continue to have tremendous success,” said Pete Marin, T5 Data Centers CEO. “Elk Grove Village has become a focal point for Chicago data center activity with outstanding Village support, reliable low-cost power and robust network infrastructure, making it an ideal location for both enterprise and hyperscale cloud companies in need of additional capacity.” T5 Data Centers has a long-standing track record of developing, leasing and operating mission critical facilities in the region and currently operates three data centers in the Chicago area.

Elk Grove Village is now home to 12 data centers, a higher concentration than any other Midwestern community.  These data centers occupy more than 2.6 million square feet of space.  Operators of these data centers include: Digital Realty, Cyber Fortress, STACK Infrastructure, Equinix, EdgeConnex, Stream, and Savvis.
