Elk Grove Village Officially Becomes a StormReady Community
At last week's Village Board Meeting, Elk Grove Village was recognized as a StormReady Community and was provided with the official designation and a StormReady street sign for having met and exceeded all of the requirements by the National Weather Service (NWS).
The StormReady program is a national recognition developed by the NWS to evaluate a municipal emergency management program as it relates to severe weather preparedness and response. The application process involves documenting and demonstrating the municipality’s ability to monitor weather, receive alerts, coordinate with stakeholders, and disseminate warnings.
To become a StormReady community, the NWS reviewed the Village’s local plans, exercise documentation, weather spotter training program/ roster, public outreach and cooperation with other local government entities (schools, park districts, etc.) to ensure the proper use of weather radios.
