Hello, this is Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson, and I'm reaching out with an update on the evolving situation surrounding the Coronavirus. We are continuing to work closely with our neighboring communities and state and county health officials on preparations and precautions so that we have the resources we need to continue providing essential services. The Village is also taking preventative measures to help protect the community and our first responders.
Based on the most recent guidance from the CDC, Village Hall has been closed to the public until further notice.
Plans are in place for water, sewer and public safety services to continue without interruption. Non-emergency staff will be available during regular business hours to assist residents by phone or email. We strongly encourage those who need to do business with the Village to make use of our website, to reach out using our online service request system, and to communicate with staff over the phone.
If you have any questions about how to proceed with a service, payment or other issue, you can call the Village at 847-357-4000 and we will direct your call as needed.
In addition to the temporary closure of Village Hall, the Library, Park District Facilities and schools, there are a number of additional precautions taking place throughout the community in an effort to slow the spread of the Coronavirus:
- All bars and restaurants in Illinois are currently closed to dine-in service; however they are still able to offer delivery, drive-thru and takeout options. Please consider ordering out or buying a gift card online for later use to support our local restaurants during this uncertain time.
- In Elk Grove Village, all Fitness centers are closed, as is the Elk Grove Theater and Elk Grove Bowl.
- All public and private gatherings greater than 50 people are prohibited while the state remains under the Declaration of Disaster. Additionally, the federal government has recommended avoiding social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people.
During this time of national emergency, we would like to ask our community to come together and help each other minimize the risk of spreading the Coronavirus. We encourage you to stay at home to help reduce the risk to older adults and people with underlying health issues.
When you must go out for food and medication, please implement social distancing practices. Stay six feet from others and be courteous to each other. Grocery stores and pharmacies remain open—we ask you to please purchase only what you need.
Though it’s necessary to keep your distance from others to avoid the spread of the virus, as a community, we are united together in this effort. Everyone’s commitment is needed to help flatten the curve of this virus. Working together, we will get through this and Elk Grove will come out stronger than ever.
