Elk Grove Village Seeks to Sponsor U.S. National Sports Team
National Governing Bodies for U.S. Sports are invited to compete for sponsorship by Elk Grove Village as they prepare for the 2021 Olympics
At a special meeting on Monday, June 22, the Village Board authorized staff to negotiate an agreement with 4Front to pursue another innovative marketing initiative—the sponsorship of a U.S. National sports team.
As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics were pushed back to 2021, and this postponement has created additional costs and challenges for U.S. National Teams, which are in need of additional sponsorship funding.
“Supporting the American dream is something that resonates in this community, because we work every day to help our businesses pursue their dreams, to succeed and grow right here in Elk Grove Village” said Mayor Craig Johnson. “This sponsorship is an opportunity for the Village to extend that support to American athletes as they prepare for competition on the international stage in the 2021 Olympics.”
National Governing Bodies for U.S. Sports will be invited to respond to a Request for Proposals with a video and details on why they would be the best partner for sponsorship by Elk Grove Village. The team selected will receive a $100,000 sponsorship from the Village of Elk Grove.
Video submissions will be available for public viewing the week of July 15 and the team selected for sponsorship will be announced on July 23—what would have been the Opening Ceremonies of the 2020 Summer Olympics.
“Elk Grove Village is redefining how communities connect with businesses for economic development by thinking outside the box” said Mayor Johnson, “Brand identification is the key to attracting new businesses, and this marketing program will help us showcase our “Beyond Business Friendly” brand on the world stage, while helping American athletes achieve their dreams.”
This new effort comes on the heels of the Village’s successful sponsorship of the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl. That sponsorship helped the Village raise brand awareness of the Village’s industrial park and also attracted activity that will result in future jobs, economic development and tax revenue for the Village.
