The Elk Grove Village Police Department invites the public to participate in the 23rd National Drug Take-Back Day on:

As part of this event, participants can bring in expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs anonymously at no cost! Please note that needles, sharps, or liquids will not be accepted at this event. If you are unable to participate in the event, prescription drugs can be accepted anytime through the drug drop-off box located in our lobby. 

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative is a joint effort of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and law enforcement agencies across the nation to provide the public an opportunity to remove potentially dangerous prescription drugs from their homes as they can be highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. The rate of prescription drug abuse in the United States is alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. This initiative addresses vital public safety and public health issues. 

DEA, along with its law enforcement partners, has collected 7,995 tons (15,989,566 pounds) of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs since the inception of the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative in 2010. The last Take-Back Day in April 2022 alone brought in 360 tons (721,093 pounds) of medication.
