Hello, this is Mayor Craig Johnson with an update on our community during the coronavirus pandemic.
This year, the Village is hosting a video Memorial Day ceremony to honor those who gave their lives serving our country. Residents are invited to view the 22nd Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25 at 10:45 a.m. on EGTV. Details are available on the Village website.
Due to the upcoming holiday, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County is extending their weekend parking lot closures at Busse Woods to include the Memorial Day Holiday. Likewise, the Village will extend the weekend parking restrictions on Village streets to include Monday, May 25.
As a reminder, residents can print a temporary parking permit to park in the street while restrictions are in place. The parking permit can be downloaded from our website at elkgrove.org/parking. The permit is only valid for vehicles registered to an address in Elk Grove Village, and any unauthorized vehicles will be towed. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this causes to our residents.
On a more positive note, the State of Illinois is on track to move into Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois reopening plan at the end of May. This will allow for gatherings of up to ten people; outdoor seating at restaurants; the re-opening of barbershops and salons; and additional fitness and recreational activities. All of these activities will be subject to restrictions provided by the state, including capacity limits, face coverings and social distancing. Details are available at elkgrove.org/COVID-19.
I am also pleased to share that the Elk Grove Farmer’s Market will open on Saturday, June 6, in a modified form to meet public health requirements. The market will provide access to fresh food in a safe, open-air shopping environment.
