Hello, this is Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson.
I am calling to inform you of a planned repair on the supply pipe that delivers water to Elk Grove Village.
Elk Grove Village, along with six other suburban communities, are members of the Northwest Suburban Municipal Joint Action Water Agency, also known as NSMJAWA. NSMJAWA operates the system that delivers safe, clean Lake Michigan water to our communities.
A repair is needed to seal a leak in the 90” transmission water main that delivers water to Elk Grove Village and all NSMJAWA communities. In order to complete the repair, the NSMJAWA water system must be shut off.
The Village will temporarily switch its water supply to backup interconnects from neighboring communities during the repair. The Village has invested significant resources to create a backup system for times like this. These backup interconnects also supply Lake Michigan water. Village residents and businesses should not experience any disruption to water supply or notice any changes in water quality.
We know this because the backup supply system was successfully tested last week during the preliminary investigation into the leak, which required a partial NSMJAWA system shutdown. The Village used the backup supply interconnects with no disruption to water supply or quality.
The repair is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 1 at 7 a.m. and is expected to last at least 5 days.
NSMJAWA has prepared a message regarding the temporary change in water service delivery that can be viewed by clicking here.
The Village will monitor the repair closely and if there are changes that could impact customers, we will send out another call and share information on our website.
