Help the Village Protest Patricia Columbo’s Release

In 1976, Elk Grove Village experienced its most horrific crime when Frank, Mary, and 13-year-old Michael Columbo were brutally murdered in their home. Patricia Columbo—daughter and sister to the victims—and her boyfriend, Frank DeLuca, were convicted and sentenced to 200–300 years in prison.

Patricia is now up for parole on Thursday, October 2, at Logan Correctional Center. Retired Deputy Chief Raymond Rose and Trustee Stephen Schmidt, both involved in the original investigation, will testify in opposition.

Community members are encouraged to submit letters requesting the denial of parole. Send letters by Friday, September 26 via email to police@elkgrove.org, drop them off at Village Hall, or mail directly to:

Mr. James Montgomery
Executive Director, State of Illinois Prisoner Review Board
1001 N. Walnut Street
Springfield, IL 62707

Questions? Contact the Village Clerk’s Office at 847-357-4040.

Sign Up for NotifyEGV for Direct Notifications

The Village has launched NotifyEGV, a new notification system to quickly share non-emergency updates via phone call, text, or email. Landline numbers are automatically registered, but residents are encouraged to sign up with their preferred contact info at elkgrove.org/stayconnected.

Messages will come from 847-357-4000 (calls), 24639 (texts), and Notify_EGV@notify.onsolve.net (emails)—save these to your contacts.
If you need help or want to opt out call 847-357-4010.

Please note that emergency notifications will continue to be sent separately through the Northwest Central Dispatch System.

Large Branch Collection – Week of September 22

The Village’s semi-annual Large Branch Collection starts Monday, September 22. Public Works will make one pass through the Village to collect eligible branches from pre-registered addresses only.

To schedule pickup, call Public Works at 847-734-8800 by 4 p.m. on Friday, September 19.

Collection Guidelines:

  • Only large branches 3.5 to 8 inches in diameter are accepted (no evergreens).
  • Stack branches on the parkway with cut ends facing the curb, no earlier than Saturday, September 20.
  • Logs, stumps, lumber, and evergreens are not accepted—contact Groot at 847-734-6400 for disposal options.

Reminder: Small branches can be collected by Groot through December 15 if properly bundled. Yard waste stickers are required for yard waste bags.

Grants Help Fund Village Infrastructure Projects

To reduce the burden on taxpayers and advance key infrastructure goals, the Village of Elk Grove has secured over $17 million in grant funding for major projects beginning in 2025.

Tonne Road Reconstruction
The Village has been awarded nearly $11 million for improvements to Tonne Road, including intersection upgrades, bike/pedestrian enhancements, and new “Michigan style” U-turns at Elk Grove Blvd/Touhy Ave.

Landmeier & Busse Intersection
$1.1 million in grant funding for improvements which include resurfacing, sidewalk/ADA ramps, and curb repairs.

Wellington & Leicester Culvert Replacements
The Village was awarded $3.67 million in grant funding to replace aging culverts near Lake Cosman, along with some utility upgrades.

The Village remains committed to pursuing outside funding to support infrastructure while minimizing costs to residents.

Village Finance Department Earns Excellence Award

We are honored to share that the Elk Grove Village Finance Department was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the 41st consecutive year! This prestigious award recognizes the Village’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in financial reporting through our annual audit.

Elk Grove Village Named 2024 Tree City USA

For the 40th consecutive year, Elk Grove Village has earned the Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizing excellence in urban forestry and environmental stewardship.

The Village not only meets the program’s standards—like having a tree board, community tree ordinance, and Arbor Day celebrations—but goes further by planting about 500 trees annually and providing expert tree care. Since 2017, over 4,000 trees have been added to the community, enhancing both environmental health and neighborhood beauty.

Permits Webpage

Whether you’re planning a home renovation or simply installing a fence, navigating the permit process just got easier. The Permits webpage is your one-stop resource for everything you need to know about permits. A step-by-step guide is available to walk you through the process.

The Community Development Department is here to support you from start to finish by offering guidance, reviewing documents, and ensuring your project meets all code requirements. Visit elkgrove.org/permits or call 847-357-4220 for personalized assistance on your next project.

Narcan Saves Lives

Elk Grove Village offers a free Narcan (naloxone) dispenser in the Village Hall lobby, available 24/7. Narcan is a lifesaving medication administered via a nasal spray that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. It’s free, easy to access, and available anytime you need it. If you or someone you know could benefit from having Narcan on hand, please stop by and grab one. For more information, visit elkgrove.org/EGVCares.
