1956 Food Drive Challenge

As the Village celebrates its 70th anniversary throughout 2026, the Village is partnering with the Elk Grove Township on a community food drive to support our community members in need. The drive will run from April 6 through April 20, and we are aiming to collect 1,956 items, in commemoration of the year of Elk Grove Village’s incorporation in 1956. Donations can be dropped off at Village Hall, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Elk Grove Township food pantry is especially in need of the following items: jams, rice, pasta, cooking oil, and condiments, as well as soap, toothpaste, diapers, and toilet paper. Youth Committee Scholarships Available

The Elk Grove Youth Committee will be issuing six $1,000 scholarship awards to recognize high school seniors for their outstanding leadership, community participation, and service within the community. Please visit the Village website for more information. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 3 at 5 p.m.


Now Hiring: Summer Internships & Seasonal Opportunities

Looking for a fun and local job for the summer? Apply for a summer internship or Public Works seasonal position with the Village! Summer positions typically work Monday through Friday and depending on the position 24-40 hours per week are available. To view job descriptions and applications, please visit the Village website.


Special Spring Leaf Collection – Monday April 6

The special spring curbside leaf collection for all residents is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 6. Public Works will make only one pass through all residential areas. Information and rules are available here.


Spring Large Branch Collection – Monday April 27

Public Works will make one pass through all residential areas beginning Monday, April 27. Large branches 3 1/2 to 8 inches in diameter from all trees and bushes except evergreens, are eligible for pick up.

Residents MUST contact Public Works at 847-734-8800 to have your address listed for pickup. Calls can be made Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and must be received no later than Friday, April 24 at 4 p.m.

Branches must be stacked in the parkway with cut ends pointing towards the curb.


2026 State of the Village Address

On Thursday, April 9, Mayor Johnson will give his annual State of the Village address. The State of the Village will be presented at Belvedere Banquets from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mayor Johnson’s address will be broadcast live on EGTV, and the recording will be available after the event.

In person attendance comes with lunch but requires advance payment of $55 or $60 at the door. GOA members receive a discounted rate. Advance registration to the GOA is preferred (thegoa.com/events or call 630-773-2944).


Safe Battery Recycling at Village Hall

As of January 1, 2026, all household batteries must be recycled according to the law. Bring your batteries to Village Hall for recycling or to any collection site in the area.

Batteries are accepted at the Community Development front counter during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.). There is no charge to bring your batteries to Village Hall or any other designated drop-off location.

Accepted batteries: Household single-use batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, button), rechargeable batteries (Li-ion, Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, Small Sealed Lead Acid), larger rechargeable batteries (up to 25 pounds and 2000 watt-hours).


CPR Classes

The Village is partnering with Ascension to offer the community the opportunity to learn essential, lifesaving skills through the Friends & Family CPR course. This training includes adult hands-only CPR, child and infant CPR, AED use, and choking relief, all delivered in an engaging, hands-on ground environment.
