Approved Budget Strengthens Financial Future While Maintaining Exceptions Services

Post Date:04/15/2026

The Fiscal Year 2027 budget is focused on planning ahead by making smart financial and operational decisions today to ensure a more sustainable and resilient future for Village residents.

The Mayor and Village Board approved a total budget of $268,620,640 for the Village's new Fiscal Year, which begins on May 1. The General Fund budget, which provides for Village operations and contains most of the Village's traditional services such as Fire, Police and Public Works, was approved at $85,164,211. This represents a decrease of 2.07% from the previous fiscal year adjusted budget (excluding pension pass-throughs and transfers).

As part of the budget for Fiscal Year 2027, the Village is using excess reserves to proactively pay down long-term debt. These funds are a direct result of our community’s strong business environment. The Village continues to attract high technology investment, such as high-tech manufacturing and data centers, as part of our long-term economic strategy to grow and maintain a strong and diverse tax base. This thriving business climate not only strengthens our local economy but also provides the financial resources necessary to invest in long-term fiscal stability.

By using excess reserves to reduce debt ahead of schedule, we are lowering future costs, protecting taxpayer dollars, and ensuring that more resources remain available for important community priorities. This approach strengthens our financial foundation while allowing the Village to continue delivering the high level of services that make our community a great place to live.

The adopted budget also includes $43.3 million for major capital projects, supporting the advancement of key infrastructure improvements such as the Pratt and I-490 interchange, Elmhurst Road corridor upgrades, watermain replacements, and community-wide street resurfacing and rehabilitation. These investments continue the Village’s commitment to maintaining the critical infrastructure that serves our community.
