The Traffic Section is part of the Field Services Division and is led by Traffic Sergeant and staffed by three sworn officers, two public service officers, and eleven school crossing guards. The Traffic Section works to improve the safety of motorists and pedestrians through traffic enforcement and education. More specifically, the Traffic Section supports patrol operations by addressing traffic and parking related problems and complaints, investigating abandoned and inoperative vehicles, and investigating all motor vehicle crashes. The Traffic Section also conducts surveys, studies, and selective enforcement activities to provide the basis for improving both motorist and pedestrian safety. The main goal of the Traffic Section is to improve motor vehicle and pedestrian safety.

The Traffic Section provides a strong community police presence through providing traffic control for many events such as the Elk Grove Hometown Parade, Rotary Fest, the 4th of July Fireworks Display, the Mid-Summer Classics Concert Series, and the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.
