Elk Grove Village Community Services in partnership with local organizations seeks to address the human and social service needs of our community. Community Services refers clients in need of; crisis intervention, affordable housing, financial assistance, food pantry usage, public benefits, utility assistance programs, senior services, child care, and substance abuse treatment.   Community Services as a referral agency identifies social agency partners that can provide timely assistance to those in need.

Community Services Provided by the Village

Information and Referral:

Information and direction on a broad spectrum of subjects is available. Services for Seniors, Persons with Disabilities, Families, Children, Mental Health Issues, Housing, Benefits, Legal Assistance, Medical Assistance and Volunteer Opportunities.

Emergency Assistance:

Our financial assistance is handled by Elk Grove Township. You can set up an appointment to see if you meet the financial guidelines. The assistance is available for residents facing eviction, utility disconnection, and other limited financial hardships. The funding is provided through the Salvation Army and the Elk Grove Interfaith Council.

Holiday Programs:

Special holiday programs are available to qualified residents at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Children receive gifts at Christmas that are provided by donors.

Back to School Programs:

School Supplies are provided to low income families.

Benefit Assistance:

Assistance with filling for Public Aid benefits, Social Security Benefits, and Circuit Breaker.

Seasonal Resident Clean-up Program:

Community Services and Elk Grove High School offer assistance to seniors or disabled residents who are not able to cleanup their yard or outside of their homes. Students are able to do bush trimming, window cleaning, and other small outside jobs. 

Food Pantry:

The Elk Grove Village Food Pantry is a program provided to Elk Grove residents by the Elk Grove Presbyterian Church. The Pantry is located at 600 E. Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove Village. 

Persons wishing to make donations to the Pantry may do so by calling ahead to the church office at 847-437-2878 or Community Service at 847-357-4120. The items provided are donations from the community which consist of dry foods, canned goods, and non-perishable items. Cash donations are used to purchase refrigerated and personal items. 

If you are in need of assistance with providing food for your family, please call the Community Service at 847-357-4120 to schedule an in-person assessment appointment.

Elk Grove Township’s General Assistance

General Assistance:  

General Assistance, or GA, is a public assistance program mandated by state law for adults that are ineligible for state or federal programs and who meet financial requirements.  GA can provide monthly allotments for shelter, food, clothing, personal essentials, and transportation through direct vendor disbursements. Decisions of eligibility are made based upon state guidelines.  Those interested township residents in need should click the “how to apply” button above for a list of instructions or call the General Assistance Department with any questions.

Emergency Assistance:  

Emergency Assistance, or EA, is available to families with children who are facing a life threatening circumstance (such as eviction or utility disconnection) and meet township established financial guidelines should click the “how to apply” button above for a list of instructions or call the General Assistance Department with any questions.  Families receiving TANF or SSI are ineligible.

Access To Care Intake:
Access To Care is a program offering primary medical care and treatment for minimal co-payments.  Suburban Cook County residents not covered by private insurance, Medicaid or Medicare and who qualify financially can enroll.  Please call the General Assistance Department to inquire.

Information and Referral:

In addition to township programs, staff is knowledgeable of state, federal and other grant programs.

A-OK Program:  This program is designated to enable Elk Grove Township low-income seniors to have work done around their home by students from High School District 214. Seniors in need should call to schedule an appointment for a home visit.

Mobile Dental Clinic:

A joint venture with Northwest Community Hospital, and other adjacent townships, this program offers preventative and simple restorative dental treatment in a state of the art clinic on wheels. Cost is a surprisingly low $30.00 per visit. Residents must be financially qualified. Contact the General Assistance Department to inquire and make an appointment to register for the program.

Schaumburg Township General Assistance/Emergency Assistance

General Assistance (GA)

The General Assistance program is a state mandated, locally administered welfare program designed to support township residents experiencing financial hardship.  General Assistance is considered to be the program of last resort.  In accordance with adopted written standards, the program may provide monthly financial assistance for basic needs.  For further information or to determine eligibility, please contact Welfare Services. Welfare Services at (847) 884-0030.

Emergency Assistance (EA)

Emergency Assistance provides financial aid to help alleviate an "emergency" or "life threatening" circumstance (i.e., eviction, utility disconnection).  Emergency assistance is not provided for security deposits, first month's rent, hotels, or medical bills.  Assistance is available for qualifying residents of Schaumburg Township.  Emergency Assistance can be issued once in any twenty-four (24) month period.  Program guidelines are established by the Welfare Services Department.

Kenneth Young Center is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit, comprehensive provider of mental health and senior citizens' support services. Our mission is to help people "feel good, do better and find solutions" by providing:

  • Counseling for adults, children, families.
  • Assessment, stabilization, linkage for adults/children in psychiatric crisis.
    • If you or someone you care about needs help, please call the Crisis Care Team at 847-383-0406. They're available to help 24/7.
  • Treatment, support, and recovery services for those with serious mental illness.
  • Service coordination and in-home services for frail elderly persons.
  • Volunteer opportunities.

Kenneth Young Centers provide a variety of programs provide assessment, counseling, psychiatric, recovery, and support services for people like these:

Individuals challenged by serious mental disorders, for whom skill training, socialization and advocacy lead to recovery

Youth seeking to make healthy decisions, overcome depression, and avoid drugs

Kids in psychiatric crisis, needing immediate assessment

Families working through difficult transitions

Individuals immobilized by a life crisis, anxiety or depression

Elders struggling to stay independent and in their own homes

People seeking to serve their community through volunteerism
