Project Description
This spring, the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Devon Avenue will undergo resurfacing and key upgrades to enhance safety and accessibility. Work will include full-depth patching, curb and sidewalk replacements, and improvements to meet ADA requirements. Upgrades such as detectable warning surfaces, new Accessible Pedestrian Signals, pedestrian push buttons, countdown timers, and refreshed crosswalk markings will make crossings safer and more convenient.
Project Updates
October 3, 2025: This week, the contractor started laying sod and began punchlist items. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will continue punchlist items and watering the landscaping.
September 26, 2025: This week, the contractor completed the recessed pavement reflectors. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will be laying sod.
September 19, 2025: This week, the contractor finished all the striping, pavement marking, and the enhanced crosswalk across the north side of Arlington Heights Road. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will be finishing landscaping restoration and begin working on the punch list items.
September 12, 2025: This week, the contractor finished paving the final surface course. Next week, it is anticipated the contractor will be permanently striping the intersection as well as working on landscaping restoration.
September 5, 2025: This week, the contractor finished final preparations for paving the surface course. Additionally, the contractor paved the test strip for the surface course and continued to pave the poly surface. Next week, it is anticipated the contractor will finish paving the surface course of the intersection.
August 29, 2025: This week, the contractor installed the detector loops, the wire and buttons for the pedestrian crossing at the Devon Ave. and Arlington Heights Rd intersection. Detector loops are installed by cutting into the binder and laying them in the street to detect when cars are at the intersection. Next week, it is anticipated the contractor will begin paving the surface course of the intersection.
August 22, 2025: This week, the contractor finished paving the binder course at the Devon Ave. and Arlington Heights Rd intersection. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will begin final adjustments of the structures in the roadway prior to paving.
August 15, 2025: This week, the contractor started paving the binder course at the Devon Ave. and Arlington Heights Rd intersection. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will finish the binder course and will do the final adjustments of the structures in the roadway.
August 8, 2025: This week, the contractor milled the entire intersection and medians at the Devon Ave. and Arlington Heights Rd intersection. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will pave the sand mix for crack & joints, as well as pave the binder course test strip for approval prior to paving the entire intersection.
August 1, 2025: This week, the contractor had some equipment failures and did not work on the intersection. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will start milling.
July 25, 2025: This week, the contractor finished concrete all concrete work for the project and the underground contractor adjusted all of the structures in the intersection to the finished grade. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will start milling.
July 18, 2025: This week, the contractor finished concrete work on the east side of the intersection and the electric contractor installed the ducts for the proposed detector loops. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will start milling.
July 11, 2025: This week, the contractor started concrete removals and replacements on the east side of the intersection. Additionally, underground electric work was completed on the east side of the intersection by the electrical contractor. Next week, it is anticipated for the concrete work to continue the east side of the intersection.
July 3, 2025: This week, the concrete work and both church driveways were completed on the northwest side of Arlington Heights Rd. Additionally, new electrical was pulled for the new lighting and ped crossings, and the concrete work on the west median was completed. Next week, it is anticipated for the concrete work to start on the northeast and southeast corners.
June 27, 2025: This week, the concrete work continued on the west side with the sidewalk being poured, the hand hole and ADA corner, as well as finishing the churches drive apron on Arlington Heights Rd. This completes the concrete work on the northwest side of the intersection with the exception of the church entrance off of Devon. Next week, it is anticipated for the concrete work to continue and for the southwest side to be completed.
June 20, 2025: This week, the concrete work continued on the west side with the sidewalk being cut in and partially poured. Next week, it is anticipated for the concrete work to continue and for the west side to be completed.
June 13, 2025: This week, electrical work for the traffic signal modification finished up with backfilling of the conduit lines. Additionally, some concrete work was completed near the church. Next week, it is anticipated that the concrete work will continue on the west side.
June 6, 2025: This week, electrical work for the traffic signal modification continued including pouring pole foundations and installing conduit. Next week, it is anticipated the electrical work for the intersection will be completed and the area will be ready for the concrete contractor to come back in and continue work.
May 30, 2025: This week, electrical work for the traffic signal modification continued. This work includes running new conduit, installing a new hand hole and pole foundations. Next week, it is anticipated the electrical work will finish up, and the concrete contractor will start pouring curb and sidewalk back on the west side of the intersection.
May 23, 2025: This week, electrical work for the traffic signal modification stared. This work includes running new conduit, installing a new hand hole and pole foundations. Next week, it is anticipated this work will continue with pouring the foundations and new hand hole. Additionally, it is anticipated that concrete work will begin as the electrical work on the west side should be completed.
May 16, 2025: This week, the contractor started concrete removals on the west side of the intersection. With the removals, electrical work for the traffic signal modification will start next week.
May 9, 2025: This week, the contractor began work on the project with the implementation of erosion control measures and retaining wall modifications. Next week, work will pick up with saw-cutting and concrete removals.
April 25, 2025: Starting next week, construction will begin on two intersection improvement projects along Devon Avenue—at both Arlington Heights Road and Tonne Road. The work will include base repairs, replacement of concrete curbs and sidewalks, asphalt resurfacing, and ADA-compliant upgrades. Lane closures and reduced traffic lanes are expected throughout the duration of both projects. Construction is anticipated to continue through the summer.
