Project Description
This project includes development of approximately 8,125 linear feet of water main with 340 feet of steel casing pipe though all 4 railroad crossings on Nicholas Boulevard and 1 on Touhy Ave. Also included is the removal and replacement of fire hydrants, valve vaults, valve boxes, and any other necessary water main appurtenances. Surface restoration will require Class C & D patches, the removal & replacement of Curb & Gutter, PCC Sidewalks, and PCC Driveways, landscape restoration using salt tolerant sodding, and any other necessary restoration.
Project Updates
July 10, 2026: This week, the tied in the service for Air Gas and prepared to tie in the final 3 services on Nicholas Blvd. Next week, the contractor is anticipated to tie in the final 3 services on Nicholas Blvd. and prepare to start running mainline water main west on Touhy Ave. from Nicholas Blvd.
July 2, 2026: This week, the contractor passed the chlorination test on the water main between Lunt Ave. and Pratt Blvd. Also, the contractor connected the new water main to our active system at Nicholas Blvd. and Touhy Ave., as well as at Nicholas Blvd. and Estes Ave. Next week, the contractor anticipates continuing water service connections for buildings on Nicholas Blvd.
June 26, 2026: This week, the contractor passed the chlorination test on the mainline between Estes Ave. and Lunt Ave. on Nicholas Blvd. Also, the contractor completed the mainline running on Nicholas Blvd. to the Pratt Blvd. intersection and started installation of services. Next week, the contractor anticipates continuing services on Nicholas Blvd.
June 19, 2026: This week, the contractor passed the pressure test and chlorinated the mainline between Estes Ave. and Lunt Ave. on Nicholas Blvd. Also, the contractor continued running mainline heading south on Nicholas Blvd. from the Lunt connection towards Pratt. Next week, the contractor anticipates completing the mainline to Pratt and starting on water services.
June 12, 2026: This week, the contractor passed the pressure test and chlorinated the mainline between Landmeier Rd. and Touhy Ave. on Nicholas Blvd. Also, a tee connection was installed on Lunt. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will start mainline heading south on Nicholas Blvd. from the Lunt connection and testing of the water main on Nicholas.
June 5, 2026: This week, the contractor continued the mainline water main down Nicholas Blvd., and has run mainline to Greenleaf Ave. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will flush and chlorinate the mainline between Landmeier Rd. and Estes. Ave. and begin working on water services.
May 29, 2026: This week, the contractor started the mainline water main down Nicholas Blvd., and has run mainline past Touhy Ave under the tracks, and just past Estes Ave. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will start placing hydrants and running services to the buildings from the new main line water main on Nicholas Blvd. in between Landmeier Rd. and Estes Ave. on Nicholas Blvd.
May 22, 2026: This week, the contractor started the mainline watermain down Nicholas Blvd. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will continue running mainline water main south on Nicholas Blvd. towards Pratt.
May 15, 2026: This week, the contractor augured the watermain casing under the rail in the remainder of the railroad tracks on Nicholas Blvd. and the one spot on Touhy Ave. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will start running water main heading south from Nicholas Blvd. & Landmeier Rd.
May 8, 2026: This week, the contractor augured the watermain casing under the rail tracks just south of Nicholas & Touhy. Additionally, the contractor hot tapped into the watermain at Nicholas Blvd. and Landmeier Rd. Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will start running water main heading south from Nicholas Blvd. & Landmeier Rd. and will continue digging the pits and auguring under the rail tracks.
May 1, 2026: Next week, work will begin on the Nicholas, Touhy, & McCabe Water Main Replacement Project. The contractor is expected to start at Landmeier Rd. & Nicholas Blvd., working their way to the south to the Nicholas Blvd. & Pratt Blvd. intersection.
