Project Description
This spring, the intersection of Tonne Road and Devon Avenue will undergo resurfacing and key upgrades to enhance safety and accessibility. Work will include full-depth patching, curb and sidewalk replacements, and improvements to meet ADA requirements. Upgrades such as detectable warning surfaces, new Accessible Pedestrian Signals, pedestrian push buttons, countdown timers, and refreshed crosswalk markings will make crossings safer and more convenient.
Project Updates
September 5, 2025: This week, the pavement markings were installed at the intersection. Next week, the reflective pavement markers will be embedded in the roadway.
August 29, 2025: This week, Plote paved the last section of asphalt surface on the north leg of Tonne Road. The electricians also began work for the foundations and wiring of the pedestrian signal posts and heads. Next week, the electric work will continue.
August 22, 2025: This week, the utility conflict was resolved, and the water valve adjustments were finalized. Next week, the remainder of the asphalt surface will be paved.
August 15, 2025: This week, the final surface course along the north leg of Tonne Road could not be paved due to damage to a utility line. Once the repair is made to the line, work on the project can continue.
August 8, 2025: This week, the asphalt surface was placed at the Tonne and Devon intersection and medians. Next week, reflective pavement markers will be installed on the new pavement.
August 1, 2025: This week, detector loops were installed in the turn lanes and water and sewer structure were adjusted to final grade. Next week, the asphalt surface will be placed at the intersection.
July 25, 2025: This week, the contractor paved the binder course and the asphalt medians. Next week, detector loops will be installed and water and sewer adjustments will be made.
July 18, 2025: This week, the contractor completed the pavement milling operation and began preparation for paving the binder course level. Next week, work will continue the paving of the binder course and structure adjustments in the pavement.
July 11, 2025: This week, the contractor began the pavement milling operation. Next week, work will continue with electrical and sewer adjustments.
July 3, 2025: This week, the contractor began with concrete removals and replacements in the medians along with some curb. Next week, the underground company plans to adjust the structures, and will continue to remove and replace curb.
May 23, 2025: This week, the contractor began with concrete removals and electrical work. Next week, curb and sidewalk will be poured in the locations of this week’s removals.
May 9, 2025: This week, the contractor began work on the project with the implementation of erosion control measures. Next week, work will pick up with saw-cutting and concrete removals.
April 25, 2025: Starting next week, construction will begin on two intersection improvement projects along Devon Avenue—at both Arlington Heights Road and Tonne Road. The work will include base repairs, replacement of concrete curbs and sidewalks, asphalt resurfacing, and ADA-compliant upgrades. Lane closures and reduced traffic lanes are expected throughout the duration of both projects. Construction is anticipated to continue through the summer.
