The Environmental Health Division strives to ensure that the community is provided with a safe, healthy environment in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. The Division is responsible for enforcing all ordinances relating to public health, including food sanitation and the maintenance of private property.

Three Licensed Environmental Health Practitioners conduct routine and complaint-based inspections to ensure that food service establishments, retail food stores, school cafeterias, temporary food events, mobile food vending vehicles, day care centers, day care homes, and hotels/motels located within the Village operate and comply with established state and local health codes and ordinances.

Other services include plan review for new construction or remodel projects involving food establishments and food-related wholesale/processing operations. The Division also completes new construction, opening, and change of ownership inspections. A pre-construction consultation or educational food sanitation training can be conducted upon request.

The Environmental Health Division also investigates and responds to residential, commercial, and industrial health-related complaints including: garbage/refuse, yard waste, grass/weeds, long-term storage, animals/pests, pollution, stagnant water, salons, smoking, and foodborne illness investigations.

When necessary, the Division works with other organizations such as the Illinois Department of Public Health, Cook County Department of Public Health, Northwest Mosquito Abatement District, Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and the Illinois EPA to ensure that all health concerns are addressed.

Please contact the Environmental Health Division at 847-357-4240 to report a complaint or for other health-related information.
