General Safety Tips

  • Be sure your address is visible from the street at all times day/night.

  • Mount fire extinguisher in kitchen and keep visible.

  • Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors - at least one on every floor and in the bedrooms

  • Store gasoline only in approved containers and not in the house.

  • Do not overload electrical outlets or run cords under carpets.

  • Be sure your electric panel is clearly identified and accessible.

  • Keep combustible materials away from hot water heaters and furnaces.

  • Don't leave cooking unattended -- it is a leading cause of fires in the home.

  • Keep chemicals, cleaning supplies and medicines locked up or out of reach of small children.

  • Keep lighters and matches away from children.

  • Wear a seat belt in vehicles at all times

  • Use safety helmets with bikes and rollerblades
